about
Listening to Rainbows & Swords by Pocket of Lollipops during the coldest days of the Brazilian winter has made me think of what's beyond the imagery of water/storm/raincoat/rainbow. We have been living through a chaotic time that has gone against everything we've planned for this year. There's this woman in the song that raises a kid but seems drifted apart at the same time she's stuck at past memories that don't go away as easily as storms during winter time. I've been wondering how many mothers out there have been struggling to face the fact that they need to use rainbow filters when their lives are a "perfect storm" and especially in these times when being locked inside home evokes memories of how life has been so far. This is for solo mothers who were left alone in the rain after being part of liquid relationships and their suffocated cries can be heard in the dissonant background of the song in a delightful contrast with the vocalist's euphonious voice. These are divergent times that demand ambiguous art to match how we feel inside and as much as this song could have been 1982 Sonic Youth, it is 2020 Pocket of Lollipops warming your heart in their unique way!

lyrics
sitting at the bar he gave me water it touched my toes
winding my fork as my dinner get cold. she’s so
magical protected, protected.now you’re all
gone raincoats on, rainbows
let me tell you one thing three times (3x)
avoiding the fools i see it all now raising her kids
she is a perfect storm. i saw it, i saw it , i didn’t
steal it you did i found it. wiping your
tongue against your teeth. what a delight.
now you’re all gone raincoats on rainbows
